Chemistry Outreach Program
The focus of the Chemistry Outreach Program is to share chemistry with the community via chemistry demonstrations and/or hands-on activities staged at a variety of venues including schools, tertiary institutions, libraries, and museums, among others. Each program is tailored to the needs of the individual or individuals requesting a presentation. The presentations are designed to be informative and to provide positive role models of individuals who are interested in and enthusiastic about doing chemistry.

C-SURF: Computer Science Undergraduate Research Fellows Program
C-SURF fellows will work on mentored research projects as part of a team of faculty, graduate students and other C-SURF’s. Research projects are solicited from Computer Science faculty and from faculty in other disciplines who have projects with a computational or programming need.

DEL: Duke Environmental Leadership Program
DEL provides education and outreach opportunities linking the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences to the Duke University campus, local community and environmental education field. A variety of programs enable Nicholas School students to gain critical environmental education and communication skills through applied coursework and practical experience. Innovative programs also provide educators in our community access to the resources they need to teach the next generation of environmental professionals.

Duke Smart Home Program
The Duke Smart Home Program is an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience developing technologies and policies for smarter living. The Home Depot Smart Home is a 6,000 sq. ft. residential dorm and live-in laboratory operated by Duke's Pratt School of Engineering, which is the centerpiece of the Smart Home program. All students have the opportunity to implement their developments into the Smart Home environment if they choose.

Duke-Meredith Mentored Research Program
Co-sponsored by Duke Office of Postdoctoral Services and the Duke University Postdoctoral Association, this program promotes women entering the biomedical sciences by offering Duke postdoc-mentored research projects to Meredith College undergraduates. Undergraduates gain valuable laboratory research experience unavailable at their home institution in Raleigh, while Duke postdocs gain the opportunity to design small research projects, mentor, and collaborate with faculty at Meredith College.

EWB: Duke Engineers Without Borders
The mission of Duke University’s chapter of the international nonprofit organization Engineers Without Borders is to improve quality of life in underserved communities worldwide through implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering-based projects. EWB-Duke is characterized by strong undergraduate involvement from initial project design and analysis to final on-site implementation. Duke EWB has sent Pratt students and faculty to Uganda, Peru, and Indonesia to work with local communities.

EWH: Engineering World Health
Engineering World Health has been created to answer the needs of disadvantaged areas through providing and maintaining appropriate medical technology. FEMMES: Females Exceling More in Math, Engineering, and Science
Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering and Science is an annual, one-day event that provides an exciting, hands-on experience for 4th-6th grade girls. This program provides an engineer/scientist and four interactive activities that are designed and led by Duke female faculty members in order to demonstrate that women can and do excel in these fields.

Howard Hughes Research Fellows Program
The Research Fellows Programs encourages undergraduates with developing interests in research careers in the biological and biomedical sciences to participate in an 8-week summer research program that offers individual research mentorship conducted in campus laboratories.

Howard Hughes Vertically Integrated Partners (VIP) Program
In this 10-week summer program for rising juniors and seniors, undergraduate partners from different disciplines (biology, mathematics, computer science and engineering) join interdisciplinary teams with two graduate students and together, they are guided by two faculty members in research of systems biology.

IGSP (Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy): Summer Fellowships
A nine-week summer cancer research fellowship program for sophomore and juniors that pairs students with an ICBP faculty-mentor from one of nine multidisciplinary centers across the United States.

InnoWorks
InnoWorks is a student-found and student-run organization that designs and implements innovative workshops and programs in science and engineering. Founded by William Hwang in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University, the program now has several chapters in the US.

Duke Youth Programs
Duke Youth Programs has provided summer academic enrichment programs for academically motivated youth for over 20 years. Each summer approximately 650 youth from around the nation and world, representing some 22 states and 5 different countries, attend one of our summer programs. Programs are offered in the areas of science, performing arts, writing, and college selection/admissions.

LEAP: Launch into Education About Pharmacology
LEAP is a science enrichment program for rising 10th and 11th graders that targets underrepresented students in the Piedmont area of NC. The LEAP pharmacology course, taught by Duke Faculty in partnership with undergraduates and graduate and postdoctoral fellows, provides students with a context that excites them about science, instills science literacy, and inspires them to consider careers in science. LEAP offers a 3-week summer course with a multi-structural approach, including lectures, inquiry-based experiments, field trips, multi-media, and writing. During the following year, students will design and present a research project addressing pharmacology concepts at the NC Student Academy of Sciences annual meeting. LEAP is currently unavailable at this time.

MOB: Mechanisms of Behavior
MOB is a summer research internship program in Neuroscience that allows undergraduates to conduct supervised independent research in behavior and neurobiology.

MUSIC: Math Understanding through Science Integrated with Curriculum
MUSIC is a curriculum enhancement program funded by the National Science Foundation that focuses on the integration of engineering problem solving with the standard course of study. MUSIC places graduate and undergraduate Teaching Fellows from the Pratt School of Engineering in elementary and middle schools across NC. The Teaching Fellows spend 10 hours per week at their partnership school assisting teachers with the creation and delivery of hands-on activities that provide meaningful contexts in which children apply math and science concepts. This program is part of the Engineering K-PhD Program.

PFF: Preparing Future Faculty Program
PFF is a national project to better prepare graduate students for the multiple roles they may be asked to serve as future faculty members in research or comprehensive universities, liberal arts or community colleges, private schools or public ones. The project brings together faculty members, administrators, and graduate students from research universities and their colleagues at partner institutions in an effort to provide graduate students with a broader range of educational experiences than would be available to them at their home university.

REU: Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program
REU offers challenging research opportunities to students nationwide to spend a summer researching at Pratt on the Duke University campus. This nine-week paid program offers research in all departments of the Pratt School of Engineering—Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. The program emphasizes underrepresented populations in engineering- women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities. All eligible students are encouraged to apply.

The Certificate in Teaching College Biology aims to enhance the overall professional development of graduate students in the biological and biomedical sciences by preparing them for teaching in academic venues that range from the community college to the research university.

WOODS: Wilderness Outdoor Opportunities for Durham Students
Woods is a program run by Duke Students promoting nature and environmental experiental education in the Durham area. Aspects of ecology, the environment, and basic nature principles are taught through team building xercises, games, and spending time outdoors.
